What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore volume, enhance facial contours and soften the appearance of certain lines and folds.
At Sculpted Rose Aesthetics & Laser, our approach is centred around balance, proportion and natural-looking enhancement.
Rather than changing the way you look, treatment is carefully planned around your existing facial features. Some clients want to restore volume that has reduced over time, while others may want subtle enhancement, improved definition or better facial balance.
Every treatment begins with a consultation and facial assessment so that we can discuss your concerns, assess your anatomy and decide whether dermal filler is the most appropriate treatment for you.

Nasolabial Folds
Dermal filler can be used to soften the lines that run between the sides of the nose and the corners of the mouth.
Marionette lines
Filler may be used to soften the lines that run downwards from the corners of the mouth towards the chin, and improve support through the lower face.

How do dermal fillers work?
Most dermal fillers used at Sculpted Rose are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present within the body.
Different fillers have different consistencies and properties. This allows us to select the product according to the area being treated and the type of support required.
For example, a softer product may be selected for delicate enhancement, while a firmer, more supportive product may be used where greater structure is required.
The filler is placed beneath the skin using a needle, cannula or a combination of both.
The amount, depth and placement are always determined by your individual anatomy rather than following a standard template.
What happens during treatment?
Your appointment begins with a consultation and facial assessment.
We will discuss:
- Your treatment goals
- Previous aesthetic treatments
- Medical history
- Current medication
- Facial anatomy
- Product choice
- Expected outcome
- Possible risks and side effects
The treatment area is then cleansed and marked where appropriate.
Dermal filler is introduced into carefully selected areas. You may feel pressure, pinching or temporary discomfort during treatment.
Many dermal fillers also contain local anaesthetic to help make the procedure more comfortable.
When will I see a difference?
An initial change is usually visible immediately.
However, swelling, bruising and temporary unevenness can affect the appearance during the first few days.
We recommend allowing approximately two weeks for dermal filler to settle before assessing the result.
Some areas may continue to soften and integrate beyond this point.
How long does dermal filler last?
Longevity varies considerably between clients.
Factors include:
- Treatment area
- Product selected
- Amount used
- Individual metabolism
- Facial movement
- Lifestyle
- Previous filler treatments
Rather than automatically repeating filler after a set period, we prefer to reassess the area and only retreat when appropriate.
Is there any downtime?
Some temporary reaction is expected following dermal filler treatment.
This may include:
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Redness
- Tenderness
- Firmness
- Small lumps
- Temporary asymmetry
- Mild itching
- Sensitivity around the injection points
The amount of swelling varies according to the treatment area and individual response.
Dermal filler aftercare
Following treatment:
- Avoid touching or pressing the treated area unnecessarily
- Keep the area clean
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
- Avoid alcohol for approximately 24 hours
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms and excessive heat initially
- Avoid sunbeds and significant sun exposure
- Avoid facial massage or firm pressure over the treated area
- Avoid additional facial treatments until advised
- Apply makeup gently once the injection sites have closed
- Avoid sleeping directly on the treated area where possible
- Do not massage lumps or firmness unless specifically instructed
- Follow any additional area-specific aftercare provided by your practitioner
Please remember that swelling can make the area appear uneven while it is settling.
Allow approximately two weeks before judging the result.
When should I contact the clinic?
Please contact the clinic promptly if you experience:
- Significant or increasing pain
- Unusual whitening or blanching of the skin
- Grey, dusky or mottled skin
- Skin that feels unusually cold
- Blistering
- Rapidly worsening swelling
- Increasing heat or spreading redness
- Visual disturbance
- Any sudden or unusual symptom that concerns you

Is dermal filler permanent?
No.
Hyaluronic-acid fillers gradually break down over time.
The rate at which this happens differs between clients and treatment areas.
Can dermal filler be dissolved?
Suitable hyaluronic-acid dermal filler can usually be dissolved using hyaluronidase where clinically appropriate.
Can filler migrate?
Migration can occur.
Anatomy, placement, treatment frequency, product choice and the amount of existing filler can all play a role.
If you already have filler from previous treatments, this will be assessed before additional product is recommended.
Can I have filler if I have previously been treated somewhere else?
Usually, yes.
Please tell us:
- Which area was treated
- When it was treated
- What product was used, if known
- Approximately how much was used
- Whether the area has ever been dissolved
If there is already enough filler present or evidence of migration, we may recommend waiting or dissolving rather than adding further product.
How soon before an event should I book?
We do not recommend booking dermal filler immediately before a wedding, holiday or important event.
Bruising and swelling can occur, so ideally allow at least a few weeks for the area to settle.
Who is dermal filler not suitable for?
Treatment may need to be postponed or may not be appropriate if you:
- Are under 18
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have active infection or inflammation in the treatment area
- Are currently unwell
- Have certain allergies or medical conditions
- Have recently undergone certain dental procedures
- Have significant unresolved filler from previous treatments
- Have expectations that cannot realistically be achieved with filler
